Born in Benin, Dr Odoulami leads research on Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) across Africa, assessing how reflecting sunlight might affect regional weather systems and food security. His work, supported by the Simons Foundation International, uses advanced models to evaluate both potential benefits and risks.
“Africa is facing the harshest consequences of global warming despite contributing the least,” Odoulami said. “It is crucial for Africa, together with the Global South, to lead the global debate on climate intervention techniques. And this can’t be possible without research.”
Beyond his scientific leadership, Odoulami is deeply involved in building Africa’s climate research capacity through the ACIR Hub, alongside Dr Chris Lennard. Together, they are developing training opportunities for the next generation of climate scientists.
