The Degrees Global Forum 2025, co-organised by the African Climate Intervention Research Hub (ACIRH), brought together 300 participants from 49 countries in Cape Town to shape the future of SRM research and governance.
It was the largest and most diverse gathering on SRM to date — convening researchers, policymakers, civil society leaders, and funders from across the Global South and North.
The Forum featured high-level speakers, including Thelma Krug, former Vice-Chair of the IPCC, and Pascal Lamy, Chair of the Climate Overshoot Commission.
Over five days, discussions addressed scientific uncertainties, governance frameworks, and regional priorities — with Africa’s role and perspectives at the centre.
“SRM is a global issue; it’s in the same category where we put climate change,” said Jackie Kado, Executive Director of NASAC and Trustee of Degrees. “I hope you leave not just with new ideas and new friends, but a new perspective on what SRM means for Africa.”
The Forum also included dialogues with policymakers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, alongside side events like the Geoengineering Model Intercomparison Project (GeoMIP) workshop.
